WICHITA FALLS–The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas suffered their second straight defeat to the Midwestern State University Mustangs 43-10. The loss was also their second in Lone Star Conference play.
The Javelinas started freshman Caleb Bedford, their fourth different quarterback this season. The story of the night for the Hogs was four turnovers, including an opening kickoff return fumble which led to a MSU field goal.
The Javelina offense couldn’t get anything going in the ballgame. They finished the game with 186 yards of total offense. 121 of those yards came via the run game while the other remaining 65 yards came from the pass attack.
The Javelinas fought their way back in the game after a one-yard quarterback sneak from Caleb Bedford, to make the score 20-10 with 11:19 left in the third quarter.
The Mustangs received the ensuing kick and were stuffed by the Javelina defense, forcing a third and 30 from the Mustangs own 16-yard line. The Mustangs would complete
the pass over the middle, picking up the first down and killing all the momentum the Javelinas had built up in the second half.
The Mustangs scored 23 unanswered points from that momentum en route to victory.
The Javelinas drop their overall record to 3-2 and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Javelinas return back to Javelina Stadium for Homecoming against the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions Oct 12.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
