The Texas A&M-Kingsville athletic department released the 2013 Javelina football schedule Thursday with a slate featuring 5-home games, the 3rd annual Lone Star Conference Football Festival in Arlington at Cowboys Stadium, and two games versus the Gulf South Conference.
First-year head coach David Calloway will lead the Javelinas, who finished 6-6 last year with an appearance in the Kanza Bowl, against the challenging slate. On the schedule are three NCAA Division II playoff participants including the Valdosta State, which claimed the Division II title last fall. The other two playoff teams from a season ago are Lone Star Conference rivals Midwestern State and West Texas A&M.
The Javelinas open the season with a trip to Ellensburg, Wash. to face Central Washington on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. PST (3 p.m.) CST. They return to the Lone Star state the following weekend to participate in the 3rd Annual Lone Star Conference Football Festival at Cowboy Stadium. Kingsville will take on Monterrey Tech out of Mexico in this year’s festival on Sept. 14 at noon.
Kingsville opens the home portion of its schedule with back-to-back home contests on Sept. 21 and Sept. 28. The home opener on Hispanic Heritage Weekend will pit the Hoggies against Division II newcomer McMurry at 7 p.m., while the Buffaloes of West Texas A&M come to Javelina Stadium for Family Fiesta Weekend on Sept. 28.
Following the 2-game homestand, Kingsville will travel to Midwestern State on Oct. 5 for a clash with the defending league champion. Texas A&M-Commerce will be third team to visit Kingsville in 2013 and will be the Javelinas’ opponent in the Kleberg Bank Homecoming Game.
A second 2-game road swing follows. On Oct. 19, the Javelinas travel to Florence, Ala. to challenge North Alabama in the GSC-LSC First-and-10 Challenge. The next weekend, the Javelinas will travel the opposite direction as they head west to Eastern New Mexico at 2 p.m. MST/3 p.m. CST.
The regular season closes with two of the final three games at Javelina Stadium. On Nov. 2, Tarleton State comes to town for Community Appreciation night. After traveling to San Angelo to take battle Angelo State in the final regular-season road game, Kingsville will host the defending national champion Valdosta State at 7 p.m. The final weekend of the season will also be the 2013 Hall of Fame Weekend.
Tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale at a later date.
