A water pipe busted on the second floor of Mesquite Village West (MVW) late last night, causing water damage to residents of the first and second floor.
The pipe leak affects approximately 40 residents of the building, according to Director of Housing, Thomas Martin.
“We had a water leak for the past couple of days and our physical plant people thought they had this thing fixed for real last night, but the water pressure didn’t hold,” he said. “So we ended up with the mess
over there this morning.”
Martin said he is unsure what caused the pipe to burst, but said problems had began when they removed solar panels from MVW.
“(The solar panels) became more of a problem than it was a benefit, so we’ve had to remove those solar panels. We’ve been trying to re-engineer the system to get it to work effectively,” he said. “While I think we’re close, we’re not there yet.
that while the Physical Plant works with contractors to repair the problem, he and his staff will focus on helping the students affected by the water damage.
“We’re going to have a table over at Mesquite this afternoon with some options on where we can relocate them, what assistance we can provide so we can do just as much for these folks as possible while the Physical Plant
and some outside contractors try to make repairs so our folks won’t be displaced any longer than necessary,” Martin said.
