Dr. Albert Ellis, a Political Science lecturer at Texas A&M University- Kingsville, passed away, Feb. 27, after a month-long battle with pneumonia.

Ellis, a North Carolina native, was in his third year of being a lecturer at TAMUK and was well-liked among his colleagues, as well as students.

“Students liked him. He was a very graceful teacher. He taught multiple sections and never complained. He loved to teach and loved to be in the classroom,” Dr. Nirmal Goswami, Political Science professor said. “He enjoyed working at TAMUK and was a true Javelina. I have nothing but good things to say about him.”

Dr. Shannon Baker, Associate Professor and Chair of the History Department said she will always remember the way Ellis spoke about his students.

“His excitement for the students, that defined him. He really cared about his students and his students really cared about him,” Baker said.

Ellis’ Polictical Science classes were canceled at the beginning of February, then transferred to other lecturers when he was first admitted into a Corpus Christi hospital.

His services will be held today, Tuesday, March 5, at 5 p.m. at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi.

Ellis was 67 years old.

“We’ll definitely miss him,” Goswami said.
