Dr. Jesus “Chuy” Negrete opens the AMK Presidential Performing and Visual Arts Series on Thursday Oct. 27 with his unique storytelling, poetic song and corridos recounting the Mexican and Mexican American experience.
Using guitar and harmonics, Negrete traces the history of the Mexican-Latino experience from pre-Columbian times to the present.
Negrete has been called “the Chicano Woody Guthrie” for his work as a master narrator and engaging storyteller.
He is the founder and director of the Mexican Cultural Institute in Chicago and has lectured and performed at several universities across the nation.
He will perform at the AMK Little Theatre at 4 p.m. The Little Theatre is located in the Speech Building.
