Ridley Scot brings dynamic storytelling and directions to the box office hit The Martian.
The film stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara, Donald Glover, Kristen Whig, and Jeff Daniels.
The film was beautifully shot and was looked realistic for a sci-fi film.
Damon stars as astronaut Mark Watney who is stranded on Mars after a storm which causes his team to leave the planet and him behind.
Though he survives the storm he is pitted with the almost impossible task of surviving on a planet until he can be rescued in four years.
NASA also works hard to find ways to get Watney home safely, but even they know the odds are against them in this race against time and space.

The movie is beautifully shot, you can tell they went out and shot on actual locations which is great when it would have been easier to shoot in front on green screen like an infamous trilogy of movies (The Star Wars Prequels), the realism is great the planet of Mars feels like a character and Watney is in a survival war with the planet.
From the get go the odds are against him because nothing grows on Mars and even with rationing his food, he would not last long enough to see the next mission.
Though the odds he starts growing food so he can survive longer until NASA can safely rescue him.
NASA has major setbacks in order get to Watney until Glover comes up with an idea to use the ship of Watney’s crew to get him, but it would take a little bit less than half a year to get him.
Watney then must survive the time without the growth of his food due to an accident.
They finally get to him through a tough rescue and he comes home and passes on what he learned by being stranded on an empty planet.
The acting in this movie is beyond brilliant. Damon is perfect in this film and he delivers every line perfectly.
The best line is when he says, “In order to survive I’m gonna need to science the (explicit) out of this.” It just suits the character so well and makes him feel real and relatable.
Everyone else does a great job at supporting cast playing off each other and dealing with the problem was at hand.
This film would be nothing the visual effects, I am actually surprised that they did not film on Mars the shots are seamless and you get the sense that you are there on the planet.
My favorite shots of the film was when I saw shots of the Hermes (the ship of the space crew that rescues Watney).
I do not know for a fact, but it looked like these scenes could have been shot in miniature instead of traditional CGI. Again I am not confirming this, but it makes sense.
Scott is an old school director and made movies in a time when computer scenes were not as prominent as they are today.
In conclusion, this was an amazing film from every aspect. The direction is amazing, the writing is amazing, the acting is amazing, and everything is amazing . It was amazing to see a film like this make such a great impact and is doing so well in the box office.
I would go see it at least two more times, I recommend that everyone see this movie and give it a chance.
In my opinion it is the best movie of 2015 so far beating out Mad Max and Jurassic World.
