Hello, and welcome back students, faculty and staff. The Spring 2014 semester has begun and the spring sports seasons are rapidly approaching. Last semester I dedicated the Bottom Line to the best football team this university had ever witnessed… or at least we thought that at the beginning of the year.
This semester I’m going to be touching on different topics other than Javelina Athletics, such as national sports news and other significant happenings in the world of sports.
Not to worry, Javelina Athletics will get the full attention it so rightfully deserves. The Javelina baseball team enters the season with a preseason ranking of number four in the nation and is one of the favorites to win the Lone Star Conference.
The softball team starts another season under the direction of head coach Ricki Rothbauer and the men’s and women’s track and field teams are underway and are looking to win their first LSC title since the 1970 season.
The men and women basketball teams are well underway and the tennis and golf seasons will be happening as well.
There is one thing I must address with you, the students. Go out and support the teams. Football gets all the love and that’s understandable, considering the history of the program, but that doesn’t mean the Steinke center or the softball and baseball fields shouldn’t be packed every home game.
We are a university that claims we have a Javelina Nation and considers the students to be very prideful of this campus. Let’s use this pride we have for the university and show the visiting schools who come here that we have some of the best fans in all of Division II athletics.
Let’s do this, Javelina Nation! Let’s support our teams through the thick and thin. I’m happy to be back on campus for the spring semester. Come on this journey with me and I hope that everybody has a great semester.
