Veteran’s Day ceremony planned at TAMUK

America’s veterans will be honored on campus with a ceremony next Monday on Nov. 11.

The ceremony will be on University Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will be hosted by the Student Veterans of America, a new addition to the organizations of Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK).

Nov. 11 is a day to celebrate and honor men and women who have served or are serving the United States through their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for their country.

“We just want to do something for the veterans,” said Daniel Fernandez, president of Student Veterans of America. “Being veterans ourselves, we want to honor those who have served.”

The ceremony will consist of an introduction by Fernandez, a Parade of the Colors and the National Anthem, which will be sung by TAMUK music major, Blanca Fleishmann.

After the colors are retired, Dr. Tallant, President of TAMUK, will speak on behalf of all veterans.

The Student Veterans of America will have a short reception after the ceremony in the Founders’ Room located in Lewis Hall.

Fernandez said the organization plans to make the ceremony an annual event and they want to be more specific when they honor veterans at the next ceremony.
