Javelinas have strong showing in NCAA Indoor Tournament

Freshman Jordan Yamoah can now claim the title National Champion as a Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field team member after his performance during the 2013 NCAA Division II Indoor Championship this weekend.

Yamoah topped the pole vault competition with a height of 5.30m (17’-4.50”), his personal best of the season. His height is just 8.5 inches shy of the school record.

Freshman Michal Idziak also placed high for his first national meet. In the 800-meter run, Idziak finished fifth overall with a time of 1:51.16, crushing his previous record and the school record by more than half of a second.

Overall, the men’s team finished eighth, scoring in all events. That marks the highest ever for a Kingsville team to place at nationals.

CJ Griggs earned a top eight finish in the men’s triple jump. He jumped a 15.09m (49’-6.25”) to place eighth in the competition and earn a point for the Javelinas.

Anthony Washington also finished eighth overall in the 60-meter dash. He ran a 6.82 in the finals. During the prelims Washington set a personal best of 6.79.

Senior high jumper Samanta Alvarez placed 12th overall with a height of 1.65m (5’-5”).

The Javelinas continue outdoor competition as they host the IBC Cactus Cup at Javelina Stadium Saturday, March 16.
