The TAMUK Office of International Studies & Programs will host its first annual Study Abroad Fair on September 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pavilion by the Memorial Student Union Building (SUB).
The Study Abroad Fair will provide students with information on scholarships and financial aid for Texas A&M University Kingsville’s study abroad program.
“We just want it to be known out there that we have study-abroad programs,” said Marilu Salazar, director of the Office of International Studies & Programs.
“We encourage sophomores, juniors, and seniors to go (study abroad),” said Salazar.
At the fair, “Students will be getting information on the different study-abroad programs that we have to offer.”
A “special guest,” Murdoch University from Australia, will be in attendance.
“Students can go and study in our partner university while paying here in our home institutions,” said Salazar.
“We encourage students to come because this is a lifetime experience,” said Salazar.
Study Abroad offers students the opportunity to experience other cultures in the culture’s native land.
“If students have experience outside the country, on their résumé, that will be a plus when they apply for jobs in the future,” said Salazar.
The study abroad program will offer students the chance to study in Taiwan this winter session and New Zealand next summer. Other places a student can study include London, England, Madrid, Spain, and Berlin, Germany.
“We also have a new type of study-abroad called the ‘Study “Almost” Abroad,’” said Salazar. Students can study in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The fair will have door prizes such as gift cards. One prize includes a twenty-percent discount for any study abroad program
“We want as many students as we can have so that we can share this information with everybody,” said Salazar.
The fair is open to all students and to the community. Food will be sponsored by Aramark and music will be provided by KTAI 99.1. Other co-sponsors are Walmart, H-E-B, and Dearias Printing.
