With the season almost underway the Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team took another step in preparing for the upcoming season as it visited Houston Baptist in a an exhibition contest Thursday night Nov.1 as the Javelinas fell to a score of 84-63.

Sophomore post player Ashley Perez led the way for the Javelinas in their debut with 10 points and eight rebounds. Kingsville showed tremendous balance with 11 players scoring. Of those 11, seven scored at least six points.

Javelinas also rebounded well against their Division I opponent. Led by Perez’s eight, Kingsville finished with 42 rebounds. HBU had 46.

The inside duo of Shanice Steenholdt and Erin McGarrachan each had double-doubles. Steenholdt had a game-high 24 points and 15 boards, while McGarrachan had 12 and 12. Guard Tayler Jefferson added 19 points.
