Anthony Bourdain to visit TAMUK Nov. 7

Anthony Bourdain, renowned chef, author, and television host will be the first guest speaker of Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s Lectureship Series on Wednesday,  Nov. 7.

TAMUK will be one of Bourdain’s stops on his ‘Guts and Glory’  Tour, where he will spend an evening sharing candid stories of his travels and life.

“The committee is thrilled to bring a speaker like Anthony Bourdain to our campus,” Dean of Students Kirsten Compary said. “We hope that students, faculty, staff and the community will find him to be entertaining, engaging and thought provoking.”

A member of the faculty suggested Bourdain, whose television series includes Travel Channel’s No Reservations and The Layover, as a speaker for the Lectureship Series, Compary said.

“His agent was in the process of negotiating a tour, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville was selected as one of the stops,” Compary said.

Tickets for the event are on sale at, and include VIP tickets as well as student tickets beginning at $10.

“We have had a great response to ticket sales,” Compary said. “All of the VIP tickets sold very early, and the committee believes we will be sold out of tickets by the time of the event.”

The University Lectureship Series is a student-supported program that brings guest lectures to campus and the community in order to educate, inform and engage students, Compary said.

The speakers are chosen based on survey feedback.

“One of the topics from the survey was about travel and study abroad,” Compary said. “Mr. Bourdain’s vast knowledge of the world through his travels made him a natural fit for this year’s Lectureship Series.”
