False Equivalency

False Equivalency

Whether you’re republican or democratic, at one point you’ve probably heard someone say, likely in derision, “Both parties are the same.”

Heads up freshmen, recently graduated from high school and claiming to already know all the intricacies of our political system: They’re not the same. Newsflash jaded 2008 voters who are upset Obama didn’t manage to create heaven on earth in four years: They’re not the same. Just because the some Republicans are willing to acquiesce on the barest of social issues doesn’t mean they’re somehow worthy of any praise.

Our two political parties are in no way the same.

One party affords common human decency to all men and women, no matter their creed, color, religion, or sexual orientation. One party follows a sane fiscal policy; one that’s malleable and cognizant of economic realities, and the necessity of some government involvement in business. One party believes that health and wellness are a common human right, and not a product to be whored.

Seriously, Republicans, try to deny it. Because from everything we’ve seen in the last few years, you aren’t particularly fond of homosexuals, non-Christians, and non-whites. You lionize a fiscal policy that might as well be titled “I Got Mine: The Wonderful World of Trickle Down Economics.”

Do republicans not realize that people actually get sick? Do they think those pesky pre-existing those whiney liberals are always going on about are actually a secret government plot to gain entitlements for the unwashed masses? Do they not realize that birth control pills for women have medical uses other than for the prevention of pregnancy? No, obviously all women who use birth control are despicable sluts.

Once again, both parties aren’t the same.

Both parties aren’t proponents of rampant privatization of all things government funded. Republican candidate for president, Mitt Romney wants to defund PBS, because obviously Big Bird is the leech sucking the lifeblood out of our once great government.

If want to imagine what might happen to PBS if it were privatized, take a look the Learning Channel (TLC). It was founded in 1972 by NASA and the Health Department as an educational channel. It was privatized.

Now it shows Honey Boo Boo.

The Democratic party may not be perfect, but they at least represent a populace of the 21st century, and not the 19th.
