NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field programs
had 17 athletes named 2012 All-South Central Region by the U.S. Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday evening.
The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a
relay ranked in the region¹s top three earned All-Region distinction.
The Javelina men earned 16 All-Region citations, which was four more than
last year. C.J. Griggs (Cedar Lane/Van Vleck HS) and Tim Price (Corpus
Christi/Carroll HS) led the way with three awards apiece. Kiya Dandena
(Houston/Bellaire HS), Avery Griffin (West Columbia/Van Vleck HS) and
Jonathan Woodson (Missouri City/Marshall HS) were each awards two citations.
Sergio Rios (Brownsville/James Pace HS), Jose Trevino
(Portland/Gregory-Portland HS), Anthony Washington (Cypress/Cy-Springs HS)
and Andrew Wells (Unionville, Ont./Unionville HS) were each awarded one
Griggs was named all-region in the long jump (24-6.5), triple jump (50.1-75)
and 400-meter relay (39.71) while Price was named in the 100 meters (10.35),
200 meters (21.00) and 400-meter relay. Griggs also earned all-region
honors during the indoor season in the triple jump. Price now has six
all-region citations after being named in the indoor 200 meters this year
and the 100 meters and 400-meter relay in 2011.
Jonathan Woodson now has nine total all-region distinctions with four coming
in indoor and five in outdoor track.
Amber Perry (Goliad/Goliad HS) was the only Javelina woman to earn all-South
Central Region honors. She is ranked fifth in the 400-meter dash with a top
time of 54.64.
The Javelinas will be competing at the NCAA Division II National
Championship Meet hosted by CSU-Pueblo May 24-26.
