‘Love is a Four Letter Word’ is an album everyone can enjoy

Jason Mraz, famous for his fedora hat and catchy songs like “I’m Yours” and “Lucky”, released his fourth album “Love Is a Four Letter Word,” and it’s sure to become the must-have summer soundtrack.
In previous releases, Mraz has exhibited a smooth voice with beautiful melodies and harmonies to back it up and this album is exactly that, except taken up about ten notches. While some may not enjoy the smooth feel of each song, it seems to show Mraz’s growth as a musician and as a storyteller. Mraz has adopted a more mature sound and style, but there are still the undertones of that “hipster”, plaid-wearing street musician deep down.
The first rack, “The Freedom Song” is a perfect way to start the album with a catchy jazz, almost ska-vibe that will make you bob your head along whether you realize it or not.
As each song plays, the reason for the title is clear. Tracks like “The Woman I Love” and “The World As I See It” combine beautiful lyrics with an equally beautiful music style.
“I Won’t Give Up,” previously released as a single, is one of the stand-out tracks of the album, almost hauntingly beautiful with its slow melody and heartfelt words.
Music lovers of all kinds will appreciate the instrumentation in each track; the steady drum beats and intricate acoustic guitar solos contributing to the overall good feel.
“Be Honest” and “Who’s Thinking About You Now?” showcase Mraz’s jazzy voice and will make you think you’re sitting at a coffee shop with a good book.
While “Frank D. Fixer” provides a bit of a faster tempo, the album stays true to itself with a steady beat, each track tying together to form a long string of words telling a love story.
Whether you’re a previous fan of Jason Mraz or not, this album can definitely grab your attention and make you a fan. It will have you listening from start to finish, perfect for a long drive or a trip to the beach.
