University Boulevard was full of life. Students, faculty, and staff eagerly awaited receiving their wrist bands so that they could participate in the activities and
enjoy some food. People were throwing basketballs into hoops, rock climbing, laughing, and just having a good time.
The ‘Fun in the Sun’ Expo, a health fair, provided students with a fun way to learn about healthy choices and had many info booths, activities, and food last Wednesday.
“It’s good for the students. They can be active with the games and obstacle courses. Also, they can be knowledgeable about health thanks to all the vendors,” said Javier Mendoza, Academic Advisor for Upper-Bound Math and Science students.
“The event, organized by Healthy Javelinas, sought to bring the AMK community together for a day of fun and to celebrate fitness and being healthy,” said Paul Rios, a member of Healthy Javelinas.
“It serves as an educational tool to all the students. All the vendors [had] information that pertained to [students’] health, wellness, and well-being,” said Maricela Bowyer, Office Manager for Student Health and Wellness.
The fair was bustling well after it started, even though it was very hot out.
“I like that it [was] free, I like that I got to learn about different things, I [liked] all the activities; it’s a great way to stay active,” said Meghan Zauzig, Senior.
“Healthy Javelinas, that’s what it’s all about. Getting out here and having fun and celebrating being healthy,” Rios said.
