AMK softball picks up first LSC series win

After two hard fought games on Friday night, it was only natural that Saturday’s series finale between Texas A&M-Kingsville and Cameron would be a close one. The Javelinas came out on top winning, 5-4 in Lone Star Conference softball action.
“I knew this was going to be a hard fought series for us and I’m glad we were able to get the win” said head coach Ricki Rothbauer
The Javelinas(15-20,4-11) reached double-digit hits for the third straight game of the series and wound up hitting .391 as a team for the weekend. Despite the strong hitting, it was the Aggies who scored first in the game.
The Hoggies responded in the bottom half of the second inning. A lead-off walk to Kodie Garner and a one-out single by Kaycee Bryan set the stage for Bailey Offill Her two-run double gave the team a 3-2 lead.
The Javelinas were able to take the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning. Rose Stubbs led off the inning with a single a stole second base. She was still at second base two outs later when Garner drove her in with a single. Ali Bodnar followed with a single and then Bryan drove home both runners with a triple.
The Aggies were able to pull to within a run in the fifth inning when Sonia Foutch drove in another run with a double.
In the sixth inning, Denise Arnold was able to strand a pair of runners and then she retired the side in the seventh to improve to 6-8 on the season for the Javelinas. She allowed seven hits, three earned runs and two walks while striking out three. Cheyenne Brown took the loss after allowing nine hits and five runs in 4.0 innings.
Bodnar, Bryan and Stubbs each had two hits for the Javelinas. Garner scored twice while Bryan and Offill led the team with two RBI’s apiece.
The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at home against Texas A&M-International in a non-conference doubleheader.
