The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team brought out the brooms this weekend as they completed its first Lone Star Conference four-game sweep since the 2008 season on Sunday when they knocked off Tarleton State 16-8.
The Javelinas (19-7,8-4) never trailed in the series against the Texans.  With the series sweep AMK moved to within one game of LSC – leading West Texas A&M in the season standings.
The Javelinas had their bats come alive against the Texans as AMK pounded out 41 runs on 44 hits, including a season high 19 hits and 16 runs in the series finale, where the Javelinas scored in seven of nine innings.
For the second straight week AMK was able to bump their overall batting average to .261 on the season.
The Javelinas had six players with at least two hits in the game. James Wallace went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBIs, a double and a triple. James Black finished off an outstanding series by going 4-for-6 with a run scored, a double and four RBIs in route to picking up LSC Hitter of the Week honors posting a .615 batting average for the weekend.
Jake Mendiola and Mario Siller each had three hits in the game. Cameron Dullnig added two hits, two walks, two runs, three RBI’s and a double.
Zach Pettiford improved to 3-0 on the season after tossing 4.1 innings. Freshman Cole Foster pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Also in the series the Javelina pitchers Jaden Dillon and Adam Aspaas continued their season success as they both picked up wins. Dillon was able to improve to 5-0 on the season while lowering his ERA 0.97; Aspaas was able to increase his record to 6-1 with an ERA of 1.65, Cameron Dullnig picked up his sixth save of the season has he still post 0.00 ERA for the season.
The Javelinas are back in action today as they wrap up their 10-game road trip at St. Edward’s at 2 p.m.  AMK is currently 7-2 on its extended road trip.
