NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – The USTFCCCA released its 2012 Outdoor Track & Field Preseason NCAA Division II rankings on Wednesday and the Texas A&M-Kingsville men came in at #2 in the nation.

The rankings use the results from this season as well as results from previous seasons of athletes still currently competing.  The Javelinas earned 167.39 points and are second behind Saint Augustine’s, a team that is earning 192.28 points.  Angelo State, Lincoln (Mo.) and Western State round out the top five teams.

The Lone Star Conference is currently the top conference in the nation with 505.92 points, more than 60 points ahead of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Javelinas (#2), Angelo State (#3) and Abilene Christian (#7) are the three LSC schools ranked in the top 25.

The USTFCCCA also released the top 10 ranking in each individual event for the 2012 season.  Sergio Rios (Brownsville/James Pace HS) and the 4×400-meter relay team (Anthony Washington, Rios, Tyler Garibay, Jonathan Woodson) lead the Javelinas Each has the top time in the nation this year.

The Javelinas have 12 total marks in the top 10 currently.  Tim Price (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) is fourth in the 100 meters and fifth in the 200 meters.  CJ Griggs (Cedar Lane/Van Vleck HS) is fifth in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump.  The 4×100-meter relay team of Washington (Cypress/Cy-Springs HS), Price, Marquis Cardinal (Spring/Klein Collins HS) and Woodson (Missouri City/Marshall HS) is third in the nation.  Avery Griffin (Van Vleck/Van Vleck HS) is fourth and Andrew Wells (Unionville, Ont./Unionville HS) is seventh in the discus.  Jose Trevino (Portland/Gregory-Portland HS) ranks sixth in the shot put while Catrell Butler (Pembroke Pines, FL/Flanagan HS) is sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.  Kiya Dandena (Houston/Bellaire HS) sits seventh in the 5,000 meters.

The Javelinas are in action this week at the Texas Relays.
