Big changes in store for javelina stadium

New look coming to Javelina Stadium this year as the new artificial football field and track project is scheduled to begin by the first week of May and is expected to be complete by late August just in time for the upcoming football season.

“The new field and track will enhance the environment at Javelina Stadium and will make sure that the Javelinas will not miss practice due to rain or a muddy field,” said Texas A&M-Kingsville Athletic Director Kenneth Oliver.

Another part of this project is to have Kingsville Independent School District and Santa Gertrudis Independent School District to host all their home football games and track & field meets in Javelina Stadium.  Also with the upgrades to the field and track their plan is to allow A&M-Kingsville to host more UIL football playoff games and UIL regional track meets.

“Once the project is completed our plans are to submit proposals to host a Junior College Football Bowl game in December 2013 and the NCAA Division II National Track & Field Championship in 2015,” said Oliver.

Another thing Javelina fans and students can look forward to in addition to the football field and track projects is, AMK is scheduled to start  on  the new east entrance to Javelina Stadium that will include a  EmbroidMe Gift Shop on April 17th.  Carol Geryk, owner of EmbroidMe of Kingsville, will run the EmbroidMe Gift Shop. The gift shop will be open five days a week and on home Saturday football games.  They will be carrying the official Adidas fan gear of Javelina Athletics.

“This is a new day in Javelina Nation,” said Oliver.  “We are very thankful to have the support of many parties that helped us raise and secure over $2.2 million for these projects.  Our new facilities and improvements to Javelina Stadium will benefit the University, the community of Kingsville and all of South Texas.”
