Moving up in the rankings

Playing two teams that are  ranked in the Top 10 nationally in the same week is good, but beating two teams is even better.
That is exactly what the Texas A&M- Kingsville baseball team was able to do this past week, as they were able to beat seventh ranked St. Mary’s Tuesday March 13 to a score of 10-1 and splitting a four game series with fourth ranked Angelo State.
“It’s a great mark for us, we are right where we need to be,” said head coach Jason Gonzales about the wins over ranked opponents.
During their past five-game home stand, the Javelina baseball team has had a surge at the plate, bumping up the their team batting average 10 points to .250, and pushed across 23 runs on 35 hits.
“ I think our hitting is finally where it needs to be in order for us to be successful,” said Coach Gonzales.
During the game against the Rattlers, the Javelinas brought across 10 runs on eight hits thanks in part to two home runs one from Cameron Dullnig and another one from Julian Duran to help the Javelinas carry out a nine run victory.
In the four game series against the fourth ranked Angelo State Rams, the Javelinas started  the series strong taking the first two games, winning the first game 4-1 and taking game two with a score of 3-1, before dropping the final two games with the identical scores of 3-6.
The Javelinas once again had strong outings from their pitching staff as both Jaden Dillon and Adam Aspaas both picked win as Dillon was able to improve to 4-0 on the season and Aspaas sits with a 4-1 record.
With the wins the Javelinas picked up over ranked opponents they are now receiving national recognition in NCAA Division II baseball rankings.
AMK has their first big road test of the season as they will be on the road for 10 straight games. “ If you want to be a championship team you’ve got to win on the road and this road trip will be a good measuring stick of our team’s potential away from home,” said Gonzales.
The Javelinas (12-5,2-2) start their ten game road trip today as they travel to take on the UT-Brownsville Scorpions at 6.
