Continuing with their early season success is what the Texas A&M University-Kingsville baseball team was able to today as they were able to beat the Central Oklahoma Bronchos 3-1 in the first game of the three game series.

Central Oklahoma baseball team entered Thursday night’s game at Texas A&M-Kingsville hitting .362 on the season, but that did not faze Javelina starting pitcher Jaden Dillon, “I found my groove early and I was able to get ahead of the batters,” said starting Javelina pitcher Jaden Dillon

Dillon gave up only a bunt single and two walks through the first seven innings of the game and he retired 12 consecutive batters

at one point. He struck out career  high 13 batters in eight innings. He did give up a run until the top of the eighth when the Bronchos used a pair of infield hits and an error to plate their only run of the night.

The Javelinas scored first in the game, as Joe Tallerine led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Brian Frazier’s ground out.

That was all the offense the Javelinas would manage off Bronchos starting pitcher Uriah Fisher. Fisher went six innings allowing two hits and one walk while striking out seven in a no-decision.

After the Bronchos tied the game 1-1 in the eighth, the Javelinas responded in the bottom half of the inning, as James Wallace led off with a single and was pinch-run for with Dustin Aguilar. A sacrifice bunt moved Aguilar to second and then Julian Duran came through with the game-winning single. Duran would later score on a sacrifice fly by Ben Villafuerte, “ Our team (AMK) was able to fight through adversity and come back and big hits at key times,” said head coach Jason Gonzales.

Cameron Dullnig came on for another save opportunity and quickly retired the Bronchos on two strikeouts and a ground out to earn his second save of the season. Dillon improves to 2-0 on the year with a 1.40 earned run average.

The two teams will be back in action on Friday at 6, and Saturday at 1.
