AMK finds themselves on the outside looking in after loss

Playing hard and never giving up until the end seems to the mentality for the Texas A&M-Kingsville Lady Javelinas basketball during the last couple of games of the seasons as they try to fight their way into post season play.

Their 79-64 loss to Abilene Christian this past weekend hurt the Lady Javelinas’ in their chances to clinch a spot in the upcoming Lone Star Conference.

The Lady Javelinas currently sit in ninth place just a half a game behind Eastern New Mexico for the eighth and final spot in the LSC conference tournament.

“We are playing to win, and I believe that we just continue to play hard that we will be in the playoffs,” said head coach Michael Trujillo following a win over Angelo early last week.

The Lady Javelinas have a big game coming up against Texas Women’s Pioneers tomorrow for many reasons one being that this is a “Win or Go Home” scenario for meaning that if AMK want any chance of making it into the playoffs they will have to play a tough Texas Women’s team.

Seeing that this will be Senior Night and the last home game for the four seniors on the team Amanda Haven, Kelly Bastow, Shonta Dobbins, and Roslyn Robbins.

These players will be heading into the game in hopes of leaving AMK and Hampton Inn Court on a high note with a win and hopefully a trip into the post season.

The Lady Javelinas will look to increase their shooting percentage against Texas Women’s in hopes of having a chance against one of the top teams in the LSC.

This past Sunday in the loss to Abilene Christian, the Lady Javelinas shot a dismal 29 percent from the floor to go along with only shooting 20 percent from beyond the three point line.

Haven led the way for the Lady Javelinas as she had 16 points on the game to go along with four rebounds, and Inekka Stevenson just missed out on a double-double as she had nine points to go with 15 rebounds and two blocks.

AMK just couldn’t find their shots in the game, as they were unable to take advantage of 17 turnovers on the part of the Wildcats.

“It’s been like that through out the season, when we come out strong on defensive end and cant getting going offensively,” said coach Trujillo

AMK will look to have Junior Jackie Stanley be a big post presence against the Pioneers she has been one of the top rebounders for the team as of late since coming back from an injury.
