“We heard what you guys wanted to see on campus and brought it on,” Mohammed Alyaz Ali, Food Service Director, said.
The sushi bar is managed by a sushi business from Houston called Sushic. According to Ali, they have a subcontract with Aramark and they brought them down to the university.
The campus community has seen many changes to Javelina Dining since Aramark took over the dining services a year ago including renovating Turner Bishop dining hall the addition of a new dining hall, and the remodel of Memorial Student Union Building dining facility.
Aramark also went ahead and conducted a survey to see what differences the students and faculty wanted when it came to the food on campus.
“When we did the rating, sushi and Chik-fil-a were the top things…and we now have both on campus,” Ali said. “We have fulfilled out of our commitments and plans, obviously [we] see the new facilities.”
Ali said that the sushi is made when ordered so it’s fresh and healthy. Ali said that there is no further future plans for Javelina Dining at this time.
“All of our commitments to the university, faculty and staff have been accomplished,” Ali said.
Ali said that the feedback Aramark has gotten due to the addtition of the sushi bar has been very positive. The sushi bar is currently located in the Memorial Student Union Building.
