Javelinas freshman baseball player Travis Madden was found dead Sunday morning.
According to Kingsville police, a call regarding an unconscious man was made at 9 a.m. Police officers found Madden lying at the bottom of the stairwell.
Madden, a chemical engineering major from Inez, was to pitch for the Javelinas baseball team this upcoming season.
AMK president Steve Tallant sent out an letter to students and university staff regarding the incident, indicating that Madden’s death appeared to be an accident.
“This is truly one of the most devastating things that can happen to our community,” Tallant wrote. “We are encouraged by the outpouring of sympathy and support that the campus community has received.”
The university will have counselors available for anyone who may be grieving.
A memorial service for Travis Madden will be held tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 13) at 6 p.m. by the Epiphany Church located at 206 North Third Street.
The Inez, Texas native attended Industrial High School and was studying Chemical Engineering. He is survived by his parents Keith and Carol Madden and two sisters, Lauren and Emily.
Madden’s funeral will take place later in the week in Inez. As more information comes available it will be posted online.
